New issue with app & audiobooks

Use case: I am listening to an audiobook. I pause it to do something else on my phone, so it’s no longer on my home screen. Then when I go back to the app, I can’t resume – no matter what I press, nothing happens. There is no longer a play button. This is a new issue, and started happening last week.
I have an iPhone, have updated the app, and don't see any updates available.
