Replacing Existing Custom SCORM Files

ADVENTURER

I would like to propose an update to the behavior of the system when replacing existing SCORM files for custom content. When a Content Curator or Site Admin replaces a SCORM file, the system should always show the new version of that course to the learner. However, that is not the case today. Percipio apparently determines the types of changes that are within the new SCORM file automatically (material or non-material changes). As a result, if the changes are more than grammatical or image related, learners who are in progress and even those who completed it and then go back later will never see the updated course. This should be addressed immediately as it is counterproductive by not allowing learners to access the most up to date asset, regardless of when they completed or accessed it and creates additional work for the Site Admins to retire assets simply because a slide was updated or an edit was made to a navigational feature in the training course. Please allow the content publisher to choose the behavior when replacing a SCORM file and determine if they want to force a restart for in progress or completed learners to ensure they have access to the most up to date content.

Great post!! How should minor changes be handled without needing to completely recreate the training and redistribute emails out to learners with new links?

Another thought to add to my original post. When a SCORM file is being replaced and not retired, the Content Curator or Site Admin should be able to add a version note to outline what changes were made to the training course that did not warrant a full retirement and creation of a new course. When learners access the content, they are presented with a pop up that outlines the changes made within the current course along with maybe the date it was updated?0 -

Hi @Erin Emerson,
Good news! We do have enhancements planned for versioning our hosted custom content. We realize that current functionality can limit customers options when courses need minor corrections or updates. We do plan on offering options when changes are detected. We're working through the technical details now so I don't have an exact release timeline but this is an important change we'd like to make as soon as possible.0 -
@Michael Murphy I wanted to follow up on your response to see if an implementation date has been determined yet? We continue to experience everyday issues with this and it is impacting our ability to provide the most up to date materials to our colleagues. A recent example is where we updated 4 SCORM files on our site, all with non-material changes, and we are not seeing the updates in any of them for colleagues who were in progress or have completed the course. Even when they go back into the course or click Restart, they still don't see it. I did confirm with a colleague who had never opened the training that the updates are showing. Appreciate any update you can provide.

Hi @Erin Emerson we hope to have this functionality available to customers in August0

@Michael Murphy Is there an update on this, we are encountering the same issue and would love to have this fixed. We need our learners to see the most up to date content even if they previously completed.0

Hi @Ashley Voll there was some delay on this while we resolved some issues we didn't expect but it is back on our priority list. It is in active development and I hope that it will be included in our 2 December release, or possibly even mid-November. I can update this ticket when I have a more refined date.0

Thank you @Michael Murphy for the update. As you know, this is an urgent request that we are hoping to use as soon as possible and has been one we have been asking about for almost 2 years now. I am currently struggling with the use of Percipio simply because this feature is missing from the platform. I really hope that this can be implemented in November as it's becoming a showstopper when deciding where to house these resources. I am currently being forced to seek alternative locations where I can house SCORM files so that we are confident learners will always see the most up to date version, regardless of their status. Hoping that this is a temporary solution and we can return to the use of Percipio once this is resolved.
