When is the best time to market your learning program?  The answer is ALWAYS!!!  You may be thinking “that is a lot of work for me”, however, you will be surprised how easy it is.  Follow the suggestions below to grow and enhance your learning program.

Step 1:  Brand your Program
Create an image and/or tag line for your program that will always be used whenever you promote your program.  When you think about Coke or Pepsi what comes to mind?  Their logos are instantly recognizable.  Think about Apple – do you imagine the fruit, or do you think technology?  These companies spent a great deal of time making their brand memorable and recognizable.  You should do the same.  Get the help of your employees - create a contest to get suggestions for your learning program’s tag line.  The author of the one that is chosen gets a prize.

Step 2:  Build out your Marketing Strategy.  Create a Marketing Plan!
If you are launching your program, you will want to do more marketing up front, so the word really gets out.  You can send teaser communications prior to your go live date, announcements when the program launches, fun activities such as scavenger hunts during the first month of the launch, and then monthly communications thereafter.  Regardless of whether you are just launching or have an existing learning program, create a marketing plan!  Identify the target audience, message, timing, media (how you will be promoting – email, newsletter, etc.), and responsibility for sending out communications.  I recommend building out a one-year plan, but 3-6 months is fine to start.

Step 3:  Gain Executive Sponsorship
Get the help of senior leaders to support your marketing strategy.  Can they record short videos that you can include in your marketing strategy?  Can you ghost write some statements that they endorse that can be included in communications?  Whenever you have Executive Sponsorship to support your program, employees will listen.

Step 4:  Begin with the End in Mind
What is most important to your organization and how do you go about accomplishing it?  For example, does training align to your organization’s key priorities?  What are they?  Can content be curated to support those priorities?  Another approach to consider is to align content to organizational competencies.  Pick one competency per month to promote and highlight.  Create a Percipio Banner and Percipio Content Strip Promotion to highlight key content in addition to sending out communications to support them on a monthly basis.

Step 5:  Get Testimonials from Early Adopters
Organizations will always have early adopters of their learning program – those are the individuals who keep coming back for more.  Identify who they are and send a quick email asking them what value they are getting from the training they are taking?  What do they like about the program?  Get their comments on their overall experience.  Then, use some of this great feedback and highlight it in future communications you send out.  Not only will it get people to understand the value they are missing out on, but it will also recognize key individuals who are supporting your program as an early adopter.

Step 6:  Always Market!!
Talk up your program every opportunity you can.  Create an email signature that promotes the content of the month with deep links for easy access.  Listen when you talk to others in your organization and if appropriate, suggest aligning content for what they are working on.  Engage Skillsoft to help with this.  Skillsoft can do the heavy lifting of making content recommendations and you come out looking like a star!

Step 7:  Report on Results
Keep track of the asset IDs and titles of the content you will be promoting.  This way, you will be able to run reports to see the usage on the monthly promoted topics.  If there is great success on a specific month’s topic, repeat it later in the year!
