Customer Service Curriculum - Fun Facts
Customers are very excited about our new Customer Service Curriculum, and I thought it would be fun to share some interesting facts about these outstanding new pieces of content.
This curriculum has been developed in partnership with NeuBridge LLC, a global consulting and advisory firm focused on experience management, operational excellence and strategic growth.
When I first saw these courses the first term that came to mind was "Eye-Popping". They are bright, fun, engaging, entertaining and most importantly memorable.
When Skillsoft was developing this curriculum we wanted to take into consideration that the average attention span is eight seconds (according to a Microsoft study). Eight seconds isn't a lot of time to capture someone's interest. To address this challenge we elected to hook the user's attention by establishing an interesting visual tone with the content. We were inspired by the films of Wes Anderson, the person who brought us films like; The Royal Tanenbaums and The Grand Budapest Hotel. These films are distinguished by controlled color palettes that are associated with distinct characteristics. This helps create a distinctly playful mood within the courses.
What does this content treatment do to support the learner? It helps the learner understand the tone of the scene from the moment it begins. The content treatment also helps to reinforce our narrative pedagogy as we carry our characters throughout the curriculum. By including the same characters through the full curriculum the learner can develop empathy for the characters and their associated characteristics. This also helps to reinforce the learning by establishing an emotional connection with the learner ensuring the course is memorable.
Finally we included a "retro" quiz scene involving two customer service agents to help clarify key instructional points. The scenes are quirky, fun and sometimes laugh out loud funny. I had a full on belly laugh a couple of times watching these courses. I can see these courses generating a lot of buzz among the learners viewing them, opening the door to social learning as everyone discusses around the water cooler or in the team chat.
