    Great question, Tiffany!
Getting started, it is important to consider the Learning Impact - who is learning, what are they learning and what modalities do they prefer; then the business impact - are new skills being learned, is there behavior changes occurring, are learners applying what they are learning, and then the Financial Impact - is there a positive cost savings with our Skillsoft partnership, what is my current cost per learner, my forecasted cost per learner?

    I hope this helps!-------------------------------------------

Thank you for your question Michael!

Skillsoft tends to focus on 12 common metrics that are aligned to Learning Impact, Business Impact, and Financial Impact.

Learning Impact includes: Participation/consumption rate, Returning Learner Rate, Completions (if mandatory learning), and the Projected number of learners if your trending continues.
Business Impact Metrics are focused more around the learning that is occurring: The top Accessed Topic Areas, the Application rate of your learners, their reaction and satisfaction to the content, etc.
Financial Impact matters too! Is there a positive cost savings? What is the current annual spend per participating learner, forecasted/projected spend per learner, alternative costs for live training, etc.

    Does this help?-------------------------------------------

Two ways that have been highlighted to us to show the business impact and value have been the application rate and the course net promoter score, both of which I believe are derived from the course evaluations that are completed by employees. Based on that:
    • What percentage of our learners need to complete these evaluations for the results to become statistically significant?
    • What are the benchmark and best in class numbers related to the evaluation completion rate, the application rate and the course net promoter score?
    • What are ways to drive completion of the course evaluations?
    Thank you!-------------------------------------------

Thank you for your question, Amy!

Getting beyond the numbers can be challenging for some organizations, simply because they may not know where to start.  I would suggest thinking about your program effectiveness, as the next step in measuring value:

    - Do learners like the content/program/modalities? (Percipio has a content evaluation survey built into our course player to capture learner reaction and satisfaction of the content)
    - Are learners able to apply what they have learned? (The same evaluation asks about application rates)
    - Would learners recommend the content/program to a peer or colleague? (net promoter score)
    - Are learners returning to the program? (Returning learner rates)

1 of the best tools we have at Skillsoft is our Program Effectiveness Insight Survey - it surveys your learners directly to capture their feedback on how effective your program is at upskilling/reskilling and driving behavior change. Let me know if you would like to learn more!

    I hope this helps!-------------------------------------------

    Hi Kristen,

Great questions! I am happy to help address them -
    • What percentage of our learners need to complete these evaluations for the results to become statistically significant?  -> an industry standard for sample size is typically around 10% of your participating learners, however other sources do say that a minimum of 100 responses is also relevant.
    • What are the benchmark and best in class numbers related to the evaluation completion rate, the application rate and the course net promoter score? --> The course evaluation is a fairly new feature, it was made available April 30th, 2021 - with that, we are still reviewing the best in class response rates. However, our current benchmark for Application Rate is 79% and for course Net Promoter Score, it is 12.
    • What are ways to drive completion of the course evaluations? --> There is an option in Percipio to have the course feedback survey populate once the learner completes a course (in addition to it being available full time in the course player). Also, we offer a complimentary annual Program Effectiveness Insight survey through Qualtrics, that asks similar questions as the course evaluation, but digs deeper into other effectiveness measures - this could be a GREAT option to survey your learners at once, in hopes of reaching a larger sample size.
    I hope this helps!-------------------------------------------

    - Are learners able to apply what they have learned? (The same evaluation asks about application rates)
    - Would learners recommend the content/program to a peer or colleague? (net promoter score)
    - Are learners returning to the program? (Returning learner rates)

1 of the best tools we have at Skillsoft is our Program Effectiveness Insight Survey - it surveys your learners directly to capture their feedback on how effective your program is at upskilling/reskilling and driving behavior change. Let me know if you would like to learn more!

    Great question, Melissa!

Your Skillsoft Customer Success Manager can provide you with more information on the survey, but in the meantime, attached are a few resources for your review.

Typically, we encourage our customers to leverage the survey annually, allowing you to establish your baseline measures for the metrics we measure in the survey:
    - User preferences and alternatives if the Skillsoft program was not available
    - Learner motivation for accessing the program
    - Program relevance rate to the learners daily roles
    - The percentage of skill gain experienced with the program
    - The application rate (and scrap learning rate) as a result of the program
    - The learner recommendation rate of the program (Net promoter score)
    - The top business outcomes influenced with the learning

We also provide you a beautifully packaged and analyzed results summary, along with a comparison to our benchmarks, along with an action plan (suggested only) of how to drive some of the results if you fall below benchmark.

    I hope this helps-------------------------------------------

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for the follow up! To get started, I would encourage you to first identify - What is the program designed to impact? If one of your L&D stakeholders was to ask you how your program is doing; what criteria would be used to answer that question? Would it be based on usage only (and if yes, that's ok!), would it be based on your learners feedback? (reaction to learning, content relevance, behavior change, etc.), or would it be based on cost analysis? Perhaps a combination of these metrics.

I would encourage you to review the Center of Talent Reporting's "Talent and Development Reporting Principles" (TDRp for short), http://www.centerfortalentreporting.org/tdrp-self-assessment/, which provides some great guidance on implementing a measurement strategy within your organization. Skillsoft can help you measure many of the suggested Efficiency and Effectiveness measures, through our various tools and resources. Also, the Kirkpatrick Levels of Learning Evaluation is another great methodology that can help determine what metrics to start measuring, focusing on a level 1 measurement strategy - https://www.ardentlearning.com/blog/what-is-the-kirkpatrick-model-------------------------------------------

    Hi Melissa,

Measuring behavior change is critical to understanding whether your program is meeting it's intended objectives - one of the best suggestions I can make is to consider creating an assessment - a knowledge check for pre and post learning resources, and it can be deployed to the learner as well as their managers, to truly help capture if behavior change is occurring. If that is not feasible, another option is to consider a capstone project to help learners apply their learning - I know application and behavior change are different measures, however if an end of learning ,real on the job engagement can be completed upon completion of the learning, it is safe to assume that behavior change has occurred (at least in the sense of upskilling).

Also, Skillsoft's Percipio platform is going to be introducing a Skills Assessment feature where we will be able to help you measure your learners initial skill level, and then the ending skill level after completing the suggested learning journeys. Stay tuned for more information regarding this exciting measurement enhancement, slated for early in the New Year.

    Thanks!-------------------------------------------

Do you have any recommendations on how to measure behaviour change in employees after they have completed a course or journey in Skillsoft?

    Great question, Nick!

For a new customer who is just getting started with measuring their program value, I would encourage them to focus on a few metrics that measure program efficiency (these are consumption and usage based metrics, which are important to the overall program measurement strategy), as well as metrics that show program effectiveness (these are more of the quantitative metrics that help demonstrate if the program is delivering on it's intended objectives). Here are a few sample metrics (which Skillsoft can help you measure!) aligned to both Efficiency and Effectiveness measures:

    Program Efficiency Metrics:
    - Number of Participating Learners
    - Consumption Rate
    - Number of Learning Assets Launched
    - Time Spent Learning
    - Average Content Launches/Accesses per Learner
    - Cost per Learner

    Program Effectiveness Metrics:
    - Top Accessed Topics (is this in line to what the business expected to see?)
    - Content Relevance Rate (how relevant is the learning to the learner's daily jobs?)
    - Learning Application Rate (are your learners able to apply new skills to their jobs?)
    - Learner Recommendation Rate/Content Net Promoter Score (How likely would your learners be to recommend the content to a peer or colleague?)

Our team of Customer Success Managers can help you measure the above metrics through either our Platform Dashboards (Percipio Dashboards), our internal Value Dashboard, or our Program Effectiveness Insights Survey.
